Exploring the paintings of Shekhawati

Among the most vibrant clusters of India, the towns of Shekhawati have a distinct architectural vocabulary blending Rajput and Islamic forms. But perhaps what characterizes this region is it's abundance of exuberantly painted Havelis.
I have been reading about these beautiful paintings in past months but my visit to Mandawa and near by towns last weekend has beaten all my imaginations. There is so much more there, beyond what books have covered so far. There is colour on everywhere, on the walls, ceilings, pillars, everywhere. No wonder this region is known as 'an open air art gallery'.
Coming back to Delhi I am all set to start typing my dissertation which is a study on the thematic representations of Shekhawati Paintings.
