Exploring the paintings of Shekhawati

Among the most vibrant clusters of India, the towns of Shekhawati have a distinct architectural vocabulary blending Rajput and Islamic forms. But perhaps what characterizes this region is it's abundance of exuberantly painted Havelis.
I have been reading about these beautiful paintings in past months but my visit to Mandawa and near by towns last weekend has beaten all my imaginations. There is so much more there, beyond what books have covered so far. There is colour on everywhere, on the walls, ceilings, pillars, everywhere. No wonder this region is known as 'an open air art gallery'.
Coming back to Delhi I am all set to start typing my dissertation which is a study on the thematic representations of Shekhawati Paintings.

I watched it four days back and its still lingering in my head. we definitely need more movies like this.

Beating Retreat function 2017

Throwback to watching 'The Beating the Retreat Ceremony' at Vijay Chowk or the victory square, with the stately Rashtrapati Bhawan at the background. Here Delhi officially marks the finale of the Republic day celebrations.
The Beating the Retreat Ceremony is an extension of The Republic Day celebrations in Delhi. The parade comes to a close with the ‘Beating the Retreat Ceremony’, which happens on the 29th of January.
The Festival of Beating the Retreat Ceremony in Delhi is observed keeping in mind the age old tradition, according to which, soldiers called a close down to the war at sunset.
The ceremony starts with definite units of the armed forces performing lively executions. During the Delhi Beating the Retreat Ceremony, after the live performances, a hymn is played by the bands collectively called ‘Abide with me’. On the day of the Beating the Retreat Ceremony in Delhi, at 6 o’clock in the evening the bugles call the retreat sound and the National flag is lowered and the National anthem is sung in musical harmony. The silhouetted riders move away from the background which sets the conclusion of the Republic Day celebrations.
